WALL SERIES, Bruce Rigby

Rabbet Gallery Inc. proudly presents, Wall Series, mixed media paintings by Bruce Rigby. The paintings will be on exhibit from April 15 through May 11, 2007. There will be an opening reception for the public on Sunday, April 15, 2007 from 3-5 p.m.
In Bruce Rigby’s new paintings, “Wall Series”, he takes the very mundane subject of “a wall” and refines its’ character into an elaborate and sophisticated painting. The paintings are a section of wall that has been cut and removed from its natural environment.
Interestingly, they are not made of sheet rock but a mixed media composition using materials such as wooden columns, metal switch plates and assorted hardware. They are painted in a trompe l’oeil style on wood allowing Bruce to sand , layer and attach the other components. Bruce’s choice to include numbers and words are subtle clues to the original location of the wall.

The “Wall Series”, is a departure from Bruce Rigby’s signature style but his imagination, craftsmanship and dedication to a series are consistent throughout this new work.
Bruce is a professor of Art at the College of New Jersey. He resides in Flemington, NJ with his wife Mary and his son, Jason.
